Qantas Design System
The Qantas Group’s original Design System consisted of a sketch file living on individual designers computers. It wasn’t sharable, reusable, responsive, or accessible. While working on Qantas Insurance, we needed to build a Storybook library, so I built my own Design System. It contains completely updated library assets including typography, colour, spacing, grids, buttons, form elements, notifications and tabs, all compliant to WCAG AA guidelines.
Qantas didn’t have a consistent iconography set. I proposed that we have two sets, a basic set of system style icons which I created based on googles material icon set. The second set of icons were larger more detailed icons with touches of the brands colours. I created the design for this set with a host of icons to start off with and guidelines for other designers to follow.
The next step was to build out reusable components using the asset library. I hosted all of our new libraries in Abstract which made it accessible for other designers. My components are able to be used across any Qantas site, and are fully responsive.
My Qantas Design System, iconography style and component library are now being used across the entire Qantas Group.
